HEART Turns One!
Happy One Year Birthday to us! We are thrilled with our first full year of healthy and creative programming for adults with special needs here at HEART! Each 6-week session at HEART has a different theme where local artists and volunteers dedicate their time and share their talents to help HEART participants produce our heART Shows. heART Shows are opportunities for HEART participant's to engage with and share their creative work and talents with the community and for the community to engage with and appreciate the hard work and talents of people with special needs. Below is a snapshot view of what our very first year looked like...
SESSION ONE: SONG & DANCE
Singer, Vikki Matsis & dancer, Kathy McCreedy shared their talents by teaching HEART participants song & dance.
SESSION TWO: THEATRE
Actress, Tara Sweeney along with other volunteers helped HEART participants produce a play adaption of The Giving Tree.
SESSION THREE: CHRISTMAS SKETCHES
Actress, Tara Sweeney along with other volunteers helped participants create their own 1-2 minute Christmas Sketch.
SESSION FOUR: PUPPETRY
HEART participants sang and performed solos to their favorite songs and created a sock puppet play based on the story of Balto, the Siberian husky sled dog who led his team on the final leg of the 1925 serum run to Nome, to save the town from a diptheria outbreak.
SESSION FIVE: LIVE BAND
The V-Tones volunteered by playing music for the HEART participants and playing backup band to their singing!
SESSION SIX: VIDEO ARTS
HEART participants were interviewed on film and the footage was cut into HEART STORIES.
SESSION SEVEN: FASHION
Professional photographer, Reese Moore, Angharad Chester-Jones from Charleston Magazine, some of Charleston Fashion Week's stylists, make-up artists, and models, and Lava Salon donated their time, energy, and talents to help HEART participants model and strut their stuff!
