Going Ghostbusters / Edgar Allan Poe

We are welcoming guests to our heART Show on Friday, October 23rd at 6pm. The show will be hosted at St. Barnabas Lutheran Church located at 45 Moultrie Street in downtown Charleston.  Each 6-week session at HEART has a different theme, where local artists and volunteers dedicate their time and share their talents to help HEART participants unlock their talents. The heART Shows let participants engage with and share their creative work and talents with the community.

This is HEART’s 9th show since inception in the summer of 2014. The performing arts portion of the event is called ‘Going Ghostbusters’ and is a musical adaption of the original Ghostbusters movie. The visual arts exhibit is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe and is being created in collaboration with Academic Magnet High School (AMH) studio art students.

All art will be for sale and donations are accepted, so bring your checkbooks. All proceeds provide scholarships for HEART participants who cannot afford tuition. There will be pizza donated by D’Allesandro’s Pizza and free Izzy Sodas available.

HEART's 1st Grant!

HEART is proud to announce that we recently received our first small grant from the Medical Society of South Carolina for $5,000. We are sure to show them exactly the social value they will get for this money and help build confidence in us for a larger grant next year. It was valuable to go through this process and am confident that it will make it easier to get other small community grants to help with HEART's overhead.

Sept 2015 heART Show: Camp Wild Heart

Camp Wild Heart was our 8th heART Show since HEART's inception last July 2014. Our theme was nature this session and we made visual art, necklaces, and created a theatrical skit around nature themed songs. Camp Wild Heart starred an uptight park patrol ranger and his stubborn assistant played by James Bethea and Chris Pilcher who struggled to keep a new group of unruly campers inline. The park patrol rangers eventually cave into the pressure of loosening up and having fun. HEART is so fortunate to have the ongoing support of Charleston's very own ragtime band, The V-Tones as they back HEART participant's up in their solo song performances. As usual, a good time was had by all! We are so proud of the HEART artists!
