Community Engagement Coordinator/Activities Facilitator
Part Time | Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 am - 5:30 pm
This Facilitator will lead our Trailblazers activities each program day. Trailblazers is our time for members (known as HEARTists) to try new experiences, engage with the community, and get out into the world. The emphasis for Trailblazing is to encourage new HEARTist experiences while also increasing disability visibility and awareness for HEART. Trailblazing can be anything from touring art galleries in town, visiting local parks, participating in community service projects, creating art or letters for new people, or performing with other arts groups. Trailblazers is a wide reaching and broadly defined time, so the idea is just to get out there and do something good.
As part of the Community Engagement coordinating, this position will also be in charge of volunteer coordinating, including recruiting and managing volunteers. Part of that work may include creating marketing campaigns and social media management.
Other than the Trailblazing activities, this Coordinator/Facilitator would participate in other mentors’ activities, assisting HEARTists in their projects and keeping them engaged. There is a 1-hour paid lunch each program day, as your lunch time is also spent together with everyone, and involves helping to get set up and cleaned up. And you would help with HEARTist dropoff and pickup each day.
You will have time set aside during the day to be used as your activity planning time. This will give you time to organize and prepare your activities so you won’t have to use time outside of work to plan activities. Preferably you will have your plans ready the week before, as the rest of the staff prepares the weekly schedules on Mondays. The Coordinator/Facilitator will also help with the organization and upkeep of the Studio.
Some additional events and activities outside of the regular HEART schedule may be available from time to time. Some are completely optional, like movie nights and social events. Others will be required, such as our annual fundraising event - an original musical theater production at the Charleston Music Hall every spring. These events will be discussed and planned well in advance.
You would be working with us in-person at our Studio in downtown Charleston. At this time, we have strict safety and health protocols in place, including masks required for staff and volunteers. All staff members are responsible for daily cleaning and sanitizing of the Studio, and should be fully vaccinated and boosted.
We are a small team of dedicated artists who do everything we can to serve the needs of our members and program. We look forward to welcoming new and exciting talent to our team.
